KOMINKAFuture Prospects and Our Company’s Vision

The unique beauty and craftsmanship of kominka houses teach us ancient wisdom and bring a sense of quiet joy. Each house holds generations of stories within its walls, and becoming part of that story allows us to experience the passage of time and history's richness. However, many of these houses face neglect and demolition due to lack of maintenance. If we do not take action, the stories of our ancestors will fade away. Our efforts alone may be insufficient to halt this trend. By partnering with wealthy owners who love Japan and Kyoto, we aspire to preserve as many kominka houses as possible and breathe new life into them with modern stories.

Message from the President

Greetings, we are Nakagawa Juken Co., Ltd., based in Kameoka, Kyoto. I grew up in a kominka in a rural village in Kyoto, experiencing the beauty of the countryside, delicious food, and rich culture. Unfortunately, the number of vacant houses in my rural hometown has become a serious issue. Even in Kyoto Prefecture, a historic area in the world, approximately 76,000 wooden houses built before 1970 are vacant. Among these, wooden structures built before 1965 are referred to as "kominka" (traditional Japanese houses), and it is feared that around 10,000 of these are vacant and may fall into ruin.

We believe that addressing this issue should not be the sole responsibility of public services but rather should involve local businesses. Our company aims to make the inherent richness of the local area visible and bridge the gap between the local and global communities through sustainable business practices.
