The Science of Reading Collective Launches a Comprehensive Networking Community Designed Exclusively for Literacy Leaders and Reading Educators

The Science of Reading Collective, managed and sponsored by Reading Horizons, contains free classroom and professional development resources aligned with the science of reading research.

KAYSVILLE, Utah--()--Today, Reading Horizons, a leading provider of foundational literacy programs, relaunched The Science of Reading Collective (SoR Collective) community, a free resource for literacy educators and experts.

After three years of continued growth, with hundreds of monthly visitors, The SoR Collective is moving to an enhanced community platform that uses AI to connect members with shared interests and experiences. The community will continue offering free classroom resources and professional development to help all teachers and administrators confidently and effectively implement the science of reading, regardless of whether they use Reading Horizons products.

In addition to a library of resources, the supportive community features peer collaboration and the opportunity to engage with science of reading experts.

“We launched The Science of Reading Collective as a free resource for literacy professionals because it supports our shared goal of eradicating illiteracy,” said Jillian Kaster, founder and moderator of The Science of Reading Collective. “The community is open to everyone who uses—or is interested in—evidenced-based methods to teach reading. We heavily vet all the resources and have a process to ensure ongoing alignment to the latest research.”

All community members have access to The SoR Collective’s:

  • Decodable Text: free downloadable texts in print-friendly formats
  • High-Frequency Words: Games and resources for the classroom
  • Sound-Spelling Walls: Resources and printable templates
  • Literacy Lexicon: Glossary of SoR-aligned terms and phrases
  • Phonemic Awareness and Phonics: Professional learning and student resources
  • Bookshelf: SoR-aligned professional learning books
  • Discussion Forum: Area to ask questions and share ideas
  • Professional Learning Challenges: Gamified learning opportunities
  • Cohorts: Designated, role-specific spaces to connect with peers

“The Science of Reading Collective is a critical resource for the science of reading community,” said Stacy Hurst, Assistant Professor of Teacher Education at Southern Utah University. “Providing free, ungated access to resources, professional development, and knowledge-sharing improves our own knowledge and practice. And our students benefit when we, the educators, have easy access to resources—and each other.”

Reading Horizons encourages all reading educators to join The SoR Collective, regardless of their current curriculum.
