Variscite Adds Support for NXP Release of Debian 12 on i.MX Processors

Variscite Levarages its Early Access to NXP’s Official Debian Release to Provide Customers with Exclusive Advantages

TEL AVIV, Israel--()--Variscite, a leading worldwide System on Module (SoM) designer, developer and manufacturer, today announced full support for NXP’s engineering release of Debian 12 (based on the Linux kernel 6.6.3) for its i.MX-based solutions.

As a platinum partner of NXP, Variscite benefits from early access to NXP's Debian release, providing customers with advance availability to develop on an official version for the i.MX application processors. Variscite will demonstrate Debian running on its VAR-SOM-MX93 SoM featuring NXP’s i.MX 93 SoC at NXP Technology Days in Irvine, Calif., August 20, 2024.

"This integration facilitates a seamless development experience, even for those new to Linux, making it ideal for rapid prototyping and proof-of-concept projects," said Ofer Austerlitz, VP Business Development and Sales at Variscite. "Because of our close partnership with NXP, we are the first to be able to showcase a live demo of the VAR-SOM-MX93 running Debian for attendees of NXP Tech Days Irvine.”

Debian is a full Linux distribution for general-purpose computing that is easier to develop and use without previous Linux knowledge, enabling fast prototyping or proof-of-concept. Developers can install precompiled packages, so there is no need to recompile when adding packages and libraries. Debian features simple, open-source licensing terms that allow easy modifications and distribution.

Variscite SoMs already support Debian running on NXP’s i.MX processors, but can now support NXP's official future releases as well.
