Everyone Reading Illinois Announces Its Annual Dyslexia Awareness Fundraiser

The cocktail-party fundraiser will be held on September 26, 2024, at The University Club of Chicago.

CHICAGO--()--Everyone Reading Illinois (“ERI”), a non-profit organization with a mission to improve the lives of children and adults with dyslexia, is hosting a fundraiser, which will include speakers, networking, drinks, and hors d’oeuvres. Click here to register and/or become a sponsor for the event.

Dyslexia is a language-based learning disability, which according to the Yale Center for Dyslexia affects up to 20% of the population. Individuals with dyslexia have challenges matching sounds with written letters and words, often making reading much slower, more laborious, and less fluent and efficient, and often negatively impacting spelling, writing, and comprehension.

The life-long negative consequences of reading failure include pervasive academic difficulties, higher school dropout rates, lower lifetime earnings, higher unemployment, mental health challenges, and disproportionate imprisonment rates. These profound consequences make it imperative to identify children with dyslexia early and to provide them with appropriate reading intervention. Through its partnerships with families, educators, and schools throughout Illinois and beyond, ERI is committed to improving outcomes for those with dyslexia.

“Because the ability to read is a fundamental skill which significantly increases a child’s likelihood of success in school and beyond, it is critical that we raise awareness and generate funds for dyslexia,” stated Kweku Obed, Managing Director of Marquette Associates and Auxiliary Board Member of ERI. “For almost 50 years, Everyone Reading Illinois has worked to support children, adults, and families impacted by dyslexia, and we will continue to do this important work with the help of our generous donors.”
