Lucy Corr Announces Leadership Transition

CHESTERFIELD, Va.--()--Lucy Corr is pleased to announce the appointment of Michael Cunningham as the new Chief Executive Officer. Mr. Cunningham joined Lucy Corr in February as Chief Operations Officer as part of a planned transition due to the retirement of Derrick Kendall, who has served Lucy Corr for the last decade. Mr. Kendall will remain with the Lucy Corr Foundation, the charitable arm of the operation through end of the calendar year.

The leadership transition marks a new chapter in the 54-year history of Lucy Corr, but it does not change our mission to continues to provide affordable, exceptional care and services to its residents. Michael Cunningham brings a wealth of experience and a proven track record in the healthcare administration sector. He joined Lucy Corr in February 2024, relocating from Memphis, Tennessee, where he served as the CEO of Columbia Healthcare since 2018. His extensive career includes leadership roles such as CEO of FernBrooke Healthcare and COO of Advanced Healthcare. Throughout his career, Mr. Cunningham has managed skilled nursing facilities, assisted and independent living facilities, adult day programs, and CCRCs in eight states.

Mr. Cunningham holds a B.S. degree in Chemistry from Mississippi College and an M.B.A. in Marketing Management from The University of Mississippi. Mr. Cunningham and his wife, Joann, are excited to return to Virginia. They have four children and three grandchildren, and they are looking forward to becoming integral members of the Lucy Corr community.
