PHOENIX--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Integrated design firm DLR Group today announced the appointment of Mark Tiscornia, AIA, ACHA, as global healthcare leader. Specialized in leading teams in the design of large-scale academic, acute care, and ambulatory healthcare facilities, Tiscornia joins DLR Group as a principal and will be based in Phoenix, Arizona.
With nearly 30 years of design and construction experience at firms such as HDR, HGA, Cuningham, and Anshen+Allen, Tiscornia has planned, designed, and managed a wide range of healthcare projects. Of note is the Stanford University Children’s Hospital Expansion, which augmented the groundbreaking Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital and carried its revolutionary principles – from environmental sustainability, to enhancing the user experience with biophilic design, and a multi-layered art program – into a new era of pediatric care.
“As a strategic master planner who balances design and user experience with operational demands, Mark will be instrumental in strengthening DLR Group’s reach and impact in this sector,” said DLR Group CEO Steven McKay, AIA, RIBA. “He joins our team with a proven track record of executing projects of varying levels of complexity, and a keen sense of how to elevate healthcare design for patients, caregivers, and clients.”
With an integrated design practice spanning architecture, engineering, interiors, and planning, DLR Group is uniquely positioned to address challenges facing the healthcare industry, including the need to maximize efficiency, minimize waste, and design and plan for adaptability. The firm introduces an integrated level of services in the early stages of design and planning processes to mitigate risks for clients and deliver holistic care for patients.
“I seized the opportunity to build a team and drive innovation within DLR Group’s growing healthcare sector,” said Tiscornia. “Guided by a passionate commitment to create healthy, uplifting environments that improve people’s lives, DLR Group will bring clients design thinking that disrupts the status quo. I look forward to shaping the next generation of healthcare buildings and the future of patient care with this team.”
DLR Group’s healthcare practice is grounded in a design ethos that prioritizes the emotional, mental, and social well-being of users, whether patients, caregivers, instructors, or students. The firm’s award-winning design for Cleveland Clinic Brunswick Family Center Emergency Department in Brunswick, Ohio exemplifies this empathetic design approach, with soothing views to nature, thoughtfully organized fixtures and equipment, and carefully chosen and placed artwork.
Since the acquisition of Seattle-based healthcare design firm Salus Architecture and Charlotte-based healthcare design firm Wright McGraw Beyer Architects in 2021, DLR Group’s healthcare sector has a resume of more than 300 projects, including acute and ambulatory care for the Cleveland Clinic, regional healthcare systems, academic medical centers, Veterans Affairs outpatient clinics, and medical facilities for the Department of Defense and the Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command.
