SEATTLE--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The Museum of Pop Culture (MoPOP) has released its 2023 Annual Report, showcasing a year of achievements, innovative programs, and a steadfast commitment to community engagement. This report reflects MoPOP’s dedication to its mission of making creative expression a life-changing force by offering experiences that inspire and connect its communities.
"Our annual report shows immense growth in our community programming, with a 179% increase in our Museums For All initiative," said Michele Y. Smith, CEO of MoPOP. "This program allows participants in WIC and EBT programs, as well as those who are library pass holders, to come to the museum. MoPOP remains dedicated to making sure our local community can always access the museum."
In 2023, MoPOP expanded its community by launching the inaugural Youth Volunteer Summer Session, where high school students spent their summers assisting guests on the museum floor and gaining firsthand knowledge about careers in the museum field.
MoPOP successfully connected young minds with opportunities to express and explore their power, inspiration, and vision through its Education, Camp, and Club programs. Its programs served 298 homeschool participants, 158 camp participants, and 45 teachers through professional development initiatives. Additionally, the museum reached 518 students and teachers through classroom outreach, impacting a total of 11,615 students.
June marked a significant milestone as MoPOP celebrated the digitization of its hip-hop collection, allowing access to fans worldwide through the Online Collections Vault. This increased visibility of MoPOP’s world-class collection jumpstarted the already healthy loan and licensing programs, strengthening the museum’s bonds with other global institutions and introducing its engaged, energetic approach to pop culture to new and diverse communities.
Overall attendance in 2023 was an impressive 577,721 visitors from around the world, reflecting the vibrant and inclusive environment the museum has created. This year's achievements underscore MoPOP's mission to make pop culture a powerful educational tool, fostering learning through enjoyment and enthusiasm.
