LAS VEGAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The Daniel G. Calugar Foundation is excited to announce another recipient of the 2024 Academic Achievement Merit Scholarship — Nivrithi Varghese. Starting in the fall of 2024, Nivrithi will attend Purdue University, majoring in chemical engineering and business. As a scholarship recipient, she will receive $10,000 towards her tuition.
“I am so honored to receive the Dan G. Calugar Foundation Merit Scholarship. This incredible opportunity will help me pursue a career in chemical engineering and business at Purdue University,” Nivrithi said. “This specific scholarship truly represents me as an individual and my aspirations, as Dan Calugar was well-rounded in fields from computer science and law to finance and business.
“Just like the foundation was built on, I want to pursue diversifying fields such as engineering, business, and medicine. And just like how Mr. Calugar utilized his pilot’s license, I enjoy my scuba license and volunteer work.”
The Daniel G. Calugar Foundation created the Academic Achievement Merit Scholarship to recognize and reward academic excellence in incoming freshmen for the fall 2024 semester. Additionally, the foundation aims to support driven individuals with well-defined career aspirations by fostering their educational and professional journeys.
Nivrithi is one of 10 freshmen entering college this fall who will receive this $10,000 scholarship.
To be eligible for the Academic Achievement Merit Scholarship, applicants needed to achieve a minimum score of 1500 on the SAT or 34 on the ACT. Furthermore, students were comprehensively assessed on their academic achievements, stated goals, and objectives as presented in their application statements.
All applicants were required to submit an essay detailing, in 2,000 words or less, their career objectives, goals, and how their college experiences will contribute to their attainment.
Part of Nivrithi’s scholarship essay reads:
“It wasn’t difficult to narrow my major down to engineering. But I only fell in love with chemical engineering after a year of undergraduate-level research and competitions. My passions were confirmed with the numerous awards, publications, and even patents I’ve had the opportunity to work with. After all, chemical engineering is one of the most versatile careers; I could work with anything from pharmaceuticals to petroleum. However, my goals after graduating are not simply to become an accomplished engineer, but to become more creative, societally engaged, and resourceful.”
Dan Calugar is a financial investor with a background in computer science, law, finance, and business. He majored in computer science at the Air Force Academy and now uses his technical knowledge to design computer programs that help him identify profitable investment strategies.
There is still time to apply for the Daniel G. Calugar Foundation’s Academic Achievement Merit Scholarship, as the deadline is June 30, 2024.
