NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The University of Texas Wind Ensemble, hailed as one of America’s truly elite wind bands, marks its 50th anniversary with a performance at Carnegie Hall in the Isaac Stern Auditorium / Ronald O. Perelman Stage on Sunday, June 2, 2024 at 2pm. Led by the esteemed conductor Jerry Junkin, the ensemble has earned accolades for its exhilarating color, profound music-making, and remarkable virtuosity, solidifying its reputation as a musical force on the world stage.

The University of Texas Wind Ensemble’s 50th anniversary concert at Carnegie Hall promises to be a memorable event, featuring a diverse program that showcases the ensemble’s versatility and artistry. Highlights include Dmitri Shostakovich/Donald Hunsberger’s Festive Overture, David Biedenbender’s River of Time with Caleb Hudson as Trumpet Soloist, Omar Thomas’s Of Our New Day Begun, Donald Grantham’s Don’t You See, and John Mackey’s Wine-Dark Sea.
Since its inception, the University of Texas Wind Ensemble has captivated audiences with dynamic performances and innovative programming. The ensemble made its international debut at the Fifth Conference of the World Association of Symphonic Bands and Ensembles in Manchester, England, in 1991, and its New York debut at Carnegie Hall in February 1998. Commercial recordings on the Reference, Klavier, and Naxos labels have garnered acclaim from publications such as The New York Times and Absolute Sound Magazine.
Under the baton of Jerry Junkin, the ensemble has flourished, receiving many prestigious awards and accolades. Junkin also serves as the Music Director and Conductor of the Hong Kong Wind Philharmonia and the Artistic Director and Conductor of the Dallas Winds.
