BLACKFOOT, Idaho--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The viral, mega event Gedagedigedagedago, which is a collection of mashups inspired by the beloved song “Cotton Eye Joe” by Rednex, continues to smash records across the music industry. With six billion views on YouTube in 2024, the event has taken on a life of its own. In fact, there are only five other music videos that have a higher view count total, and it took them 15 times longer to reach it.
Three billion views of Gedagedigedagedago accumulated within a 25-day period, eight times as fast as the no.1 track, Luis Fonsi's “Despacito.” One billion views were made in seven days, 12 times as fast as the top hit, “Hello” by Adele. Altogether, Gedagedigedagedago has been viewed by 15% of YouTube users and 5% of the world’s population. During the past weekend, the song was played 100 million times per day. It thereby outperformed the global-leading single “Fortnight” by Taylor Swift, which had 19 million on YouTube and Spotify combined, by five times.
