SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico--(BUSINESS WIRE)--In a monumental stride towards addressing the nation’s PFAS water contamination crisis, Paul Napoli, along with the co-leads of the AFFF Multi-District Litigation, have achieved a groundbreaking $750 million settlement with Tyco Fire Products LP. This significant legal triumph will facilitate the remediation of drinking water sources for public water systems impacted by PFAS, a group of harmful chemicals found in AFFF.
Following the recent landmark settlements with 3M and Dupont, this agreement represents an additional significant victory in the battle against the pervasive environmental and health risks posed by PFAS chemicals. It also serves as a crucial step towards holding these corporations accountable for their actions and obtaining compensation for impacted public water systems and communities across the country. PFAS, or per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, are a series of human-made synthetic chemicals, infamous for their persistence in the environment and potential severe health implications.
“Securing this settlement is a testament to our collective resolve to address and mitigate the impact of PFAS contamination,” said Napoli Shkolnik Partner Paul Napoli. “This settlement resolves claims involving contaminated drinking water and provides compensation critical to protecting our nation’s drinking water supplies and upgrading our water treatment infrastructure to deal with this emerging threat. Our team has worked tirelessly to ensure that the entities responsible for this contamination are held accountable and that the affected communities receive the compensation they need to clean their water sources.”
The agreement with Tyco remains subject to Court approval by the Honorable Richard Gergel (the MDL Judge) in the United States District Court for the District of South Carolina. However, once approved, this substantial settlement will directly support the efforts of public water systems to remove PFAS contaminants from drinking water, safeguarding public health and the environment. The agreement marks a critical step forward in the ongoing legal and environmental advocacy efforts to combat PFAS contamination.
