PHOENIX--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Banner|Aetna, a joint venture health plan owned by Banner Health and Aetna, a CVS Health Company, is pleased to announce that Chief Operating Officer Joanne Mizell was named among Phoenix Business Journal's 2024 Outstanding Women in Business.
For over 20 years, Phoenix Business Journal has recognized individuals for their community leadership, professional accomplishments, and personal achievements. This year’s group of honorees includes 26 exceptional women from diverse industries and professions. Mizell was selected by a panel of judges for this prestigious award from a pool of more than 250 candidates.
Mizell brings over three decades of health care experience to her role at Banner|Aetna, where she has been instrumental in helping the company fulfill its mission to fix health care. Notably, Mizell led the development of innovative solutions like an industry leading frictionless billing initiative that makes complicated medical bills consumer-friendly, as well as a diabetes reversal program that helps members achieve normal blood sugar without medication. Her operational expertise also brought Banner|Aetna Kitchen to life, a nutrition program led by a chef and a dietician who provide hands-on cooking and lifestyle education in a small group setting. Following its success, Mizell’s team recently launched the Banner|Aetna Ecosystem, a suite of lifestyle modification programs for members, also referred to as “The Eco.”
“Our team joins in celebrating Joanne on her professional and personal achievements and outstanding leadership,” said Tom Grote, Banner|Aetna chief executive officer. “Her motivation to improve the health care experience for Banner|Aetna members is remarkable.”
Mizell’s drive to make a difference extends beyond her role at Banner|Aetna. Her philanthropic work in the community includes serving on the board of Family Promise of Greater Phoenix and volunteering with animal advocacy and humanitarian organizations.
“I’m humbled by the recognition among this group of outstanding women,” Mizell said. "The collective impact on our Arizona community is a reminder that when we work together, we can forge positive change in the workplace and beyond."
Mizell was recently named one of Fierce Healthcare's 2023 Women of Influence and one of the Most Influential Women in Arizona by AZ Big Media, was honored with a Women Achievers of Arizona award by Arizona Capitol Times, and recognized as one of the Top 50 Women Leaders of Arizona and Top Women Leaders for 2023 by Women We Admire.
Honorees accepted their awards during a ceremony held on March 28 in Scottsdale, Arizona and were profiled in a special edition of Phoenix Business Journal.
