Alain Berinstain Joins CSS as Chief Strategy Officer

FAIRFAX, Va.--()--CSS Inc, www.css-inc.com, an employee-owned, science-based solutions company serving both government and commercial customers, announces today the appointment of Dr. Alain Berinstain as its Chief Strategy Officer (CSO), effective February 12, 2024.

Berinstain joins the executive team at CSS, reporting to the CEO and co-founder, Dennis Lauchner. When making the announcement, Lauchner said, “Alain is a veteran of the space industry with experience in both the public and private sectors. He joins our team at the perfect time as CSS builds on its strong, 35-year foundation to grow its space business and create partnerships to contribute to the commercial space economy.” Dr. Jolanda Janczewski, President and co-founder of CSS said, “Our science-driven approach to helping our customers achieve their goals will be strengthened by a seasoned leader who is also a scientist, it’s really a perfect fit.”

About Alain Berinstain

Alain has been a thought leader in the space industry for over 25 years, most recently as Chief Strategy Officer at Space Tango and earlier as Vice President of Moon Express, developing their customer base and growth strategies. Prior to working in the commercial space sector in the US, Alain was in the Canadian public service, acting in several positions including Director of Planetary Exploration and Space Astronomy at the Canadian Space Agency, during which time he played leadership roles in international space cooperation strategy groups such as the International Space Exploration Coordination Group (ISECG) and the International Mars Exploration Working group (IMEWG), among others. He was also a member of the Canadian delegation to the European Space Agency’s Board for Human Exploration and Microgravity. Alain has developed science payloads and instrumentation with world-class scientists for missions on the Space Shuttle, Space Station Mir, the International Space Station, the Phoenix Mars lander, the James Webb Space Telescope, and a number of other space missions. Before leaving Canada, he was Director of Policy for Canada’s Minister of Transport, Hon. Marc Garneau, Canada’s first astronaut. Alain has a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry and Biochemistry and a PhD in Physical Organic Chemistry; he also has a Masters of Space Studies from the International Space University.
