SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Innovive is proud to announce major environmental milestones achieved by the Closed-Loop Recycling program operated by its sister company, Innocycle. From January 2022 through December 2023, the program has made significant contributions to environmental sustainability, including recycling 2.3 million pounds of plastic, diverting 5.7 million pounds of bedding, and reducing 1,720.95 metric tons of CO2 equivalent emissions.
"I am humbled to be part of a company committed to taking the time, effort, and investment necessary to develop a truly circular product," said Jeremy Jenson, Sr. Sustainability and Circularity Manager. "With the support of our customers and an industry committed to reducing its environmental impact, the Closed-Loop Recycling program has achieved remarkable results."
The Closed-Loop Recycling Service allows customers to keep their operations simple, safe, and science-focused. It eliminates the burden and risk of cage dumping and processing at customer facilities. Innovive has maintained a recycling program from its inception. In 2022, Innovive expanded its recycling capacity by opening the Innocycle facility, which is dedicated to producing the highest quality recycled PET flake and focuses on closing the loop.
When the cages arrive, recycling technology separates bedding from the cages, then granulates, washes, and sorts the plastic. This produces a high-quality, clean flake to form new cages. Innovive is the first vivarium manufacturer in the U.S. to implement product-to-product circularity, with more than 30% of the reclaimed PET plastic used to create new cages. Innocycle collects, sorts, and sends all packaging material for additional recycling while sending the bedding to an industrial composting facility, where it is processed into a nitrogen and carbon-rich soil amendment.
"From inception, Innovive has focused on reducing the environmental impact of our products and operations. We apply sustainable practice in everything we do, from the engineering, production, and packaging to delivery of our products to your vivarium," said Dee Conger, CEO of Innovive.
