RICHARDSON, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Long-time Lean construction advocate Buddy Brumley, a senior superintendent with Skiles Group, was honored by TEXO as its 2023 General Contractor Superintendent of the Year. With more than 40 years of experience, Brumley is a sought-after leader, mentor, author, and champion for the construction industry. He builds complex healthcare projects for clients such as Methodist Health System, Children’s Health, and Parker University.
TEXO – The Construction Association, the largest construction industry trade association in Texas, recognizes one individual annually as part of the TEXO Holiday & Awards Gala. Brumley was selected based on his technical ability, team-building skills, quality and project success, and personal character. The award was created to recognize outstanding service and contribution to the association and the construction industry.

Having spent over 16 years of his career with Skiles Group, Brumley has consistently innovated in his approach to building on active healthcare campuses. He led Skiles Group’s Methodist Richardson Vertical Expansion project, which added two stories on top of an occupied acute care hospital. He led the team in a seven-day phased schedule for each four-room block to minimize disruption to patient care in critical departments such as NICU, labor and delivery, and surgery recovery. The team repeated the process for over 100 ceiling penetrations and finished seven weeks ahead of schedule.

In addition to project work, Brumley is a frequent speaker, panelist, blogger, and author. He shares insights on topics such as mental health, culture, and Lean construction. He recently co-authored the book, The Old Dawg Lean Thesaurus, with Adam Hoots to simplify Lean manufacturing concepts for construction workers.
