TOKYO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Malvern College Tokyo (MCT) held its grand opening ceremony yesterday, officially marking the commencement of the school’s first academic year, which began in August 2023. Officiating guests included HM Julia Longbottom CMG, the British Ambassador to Japan; Professor Roger D. Kornberg, Nobel Laureate for Chemistry and Professor at the School of Medicine of Stanford University; Jacqueline So, Co-founder and Chief Executive of Malvern College International; Keith Metcalfe, Headmaster of Malvern College; and Mike Spencer, Founding Headmaster of Malvern College Tokyo. More than 300 guests, including representatives from the fields of politics, education and business, celebrated the event.
Ambassador Longbottom spoke about the importance of a hallowed British educational institution launching in Japan: “It is a school which can draw on the strengths of two distinct cultures as you look to extend the boundaries of international education in Japan.”
Ms So explained that MCT will offer a rich learning environment: “This sanctuary of learning is not just another school, but a place where young minds will be nurtured and inspired to embrace an international mindset, entrepreneurship, financial literacy, science, sports and environmental consciousness.”
Professor Kornberg spoke about MCT’s dedication to the sciences: “Malvern College Tokyo, with its state-of-the-art facilities and well-equipped laboratories, is poised to become a hub of scientific exploration and discovery. I am thrilled to witness the passion for learning and the thirst for knowledge that exists within this community.”
In closing, Mr Spencer highlighted MCT’s diverse and thorough educational approach: “We aim to provide our pupils with the complete set of tools they need to navigate a bright future ahead.
