Veterinary ophthalmology is a division of veterinary medicine focused on the structure, function, and diseases of the eye of all animal species. BEVS’ Ophthalmology Department provides a full array of leading-edge diagnostics, and advanced medical and surgical treatments to preserve and restore vision in dogs and cats.

From routine eye problems to complex ophthalmic diseases and traumatic eye injuries, the Ophthalmology Department offers personalized care for a wide range of conditions that affect an animal’s vision, including:

  • Cataract surgery with intraocular lens (IOL) implantation

  • Distichia & ectopic cilia cryotreatment

  • Parotid duct transposition / dry eye surgery

Pet parents should seek care from a veterinary ophthalmologist when these symptoms appear in their pet:

Ophthalmic care for pets at BEVS is available by appointment Monday-Friday 8:00 am-5:00 pm. To schedule, call 802-863-2387. No referral from a primary care veterinarian is necessary, but is always appreciated. Owners with pets experiencing an eye emergency are asked to call if possible before coming to BEVS’ Emergency Department (open 24/7).
