EVLO Energy Storage Inc. Awarded Energy Storage Canada Award for Landmark BESS Application in Parent, Quebec

Project supported critical transmission upgrades in addition to being first BESS in North America to provide uninterrupted power by riding through faults on the grid during outages

VARENNES, Quebec--(BUSINESS WIRE)--EVLO Energy Storage Inc. (EVLO), a fully integrated battery energy storage systems and solutions provider and a subsidiary of Hydro-Québec, is pleased to announce that it has been awarded the 2023 Landmark Application of Energy Storage Award from Energy Storage Canada. EVLO was chosen for its ground-breaking and innovative application of energy storage technology in Parent, Quebec.

In Parent, a single transmission line supplies power to the town’s 600+ residents. When critical upgrades were necessary, EVLO deployed a 4-MW / 20-MWh BESS for Hydro-Quebec, the local utility. The EVLO BESS continues to play a pivotal role in providing uninterrupted energy whenever primary power sources are offline and is the first system in North America that can contribute to the fault while serving as the sole source of power for the grid. In 2023, the Parent project will become North America’s first fully automated, utility-scale battery used for transmission-level backup power.
