Iconic UPS Brown Delivery Vehicles Receive Personal Update for Company’s 116th Founders’ Day

Celebration includes recognition of nearly 50,000 UPS delivery drivers

ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--UPS (NYSE: UPS) is marking its ‘Founders’ Day’ and 116 years of serving customers by celebrating what drives the company forward: its people. Today, the company is unveiling an update to its iconic brown delivery vehicles, personally recognizing nearly 50,000 UPSers.

“This Founders’ Day, I’m proud of UPSers for doing what they do best – and that’s deliver,” said UPS Chief Executive Officer Carol B. Tomé. “No matter the challenge, our team stays focused and continues to deliver the best service for our customers. I’m delighted by the work we’ve done together for our people, our customers and our communities. Our future is bright.”

UPS’s industry-leading pay and benefits, including healthcare benefits and tuition assistance, made headline news recently and fueled the company’s reputation as the most reliable on-time performance delivery company. The company also is ranked as the most trusted shipping brand in America. These facts and a strong strategic vision that focuses on a better and bolder future make UPS well-positioned for another century of success.

Giving UPS Delivery Vehicles a Personalized Touch

The timeless brown UPS delivery vehicle is getting an update in the U.S., including:

  • Personalized name plates that recognize drivers who have served for 10 or more years.
  • UPS Circle of Honor emblems celebrating drivers with 25 years or more of safe driving.

When a brown UPS delivery vehicle is seen on the road, it’s associated with great service and trusted drivers. Adding a touch of personalization is UPS's way of showing appreciation for drivers’ loyalty and commitment to excellence, service and safety. Nearly 50,000 UPSers will be personally recognized through this new effort this year alone.

"I was humbled and honored to have my nameplate on my truck. In my 34 years at the company, it was my proudest moment,” said Ray Vincent, a UPS driver in Cranbury, New Jersey. “Everyone on my route takes interest; business owners and even kids come up asking to take pictures next to my name."

UPS will also equip all newly purchased U.S. small package delivery vehicles with air conditioning starting January 1, 2024. Enhancements, including fans and heat shields, are planned for UPS’s current delivery fleet.

UPS began using cars for delivery in 1915 – just eight years after being founded – and by 1919 debuted the iconic brown color that's been identified with the company for more than a century. The rounded bubble front hood and roofline were introduced in 1965 and have become part and parcel of the vehicle millions of customers trust with reliable deliveries every day.

For both customers and employees, UPS’s iconic brown delivery vehicle has represented trust and reliability for more than a century. This strong relationship between UPS drivers and customers continues today with the company’s continued focus on being customer first, people led and innovation driven.
