Tufano is stepping down as CEO of the company, effective September 1. A national search for the company’s new CEO is being conducted. Thomas Hutton, EVP and General Counsel of AmeriHealth Caritas’ parent company, Independence Health Group, and a member of the AmeriHealth Caritas board of directors, will assume the role of interim CEO as the search is underway. Hutton is a seasoned healthcare executive and has served on the AmeriHealth Caritas board of directors since 2020.
Tufano is a visionary leader who has served as CEO since 2014, guiding the company to multi-billion dollar growth, while maintaining the mission-driven focus that has helped define AmeriHealth Caritas. The company has nearly quadrupled in size under Tufano’s leadership, achieving $20 billion in revenue for 2022, with over 9,500 employees across 13 states and the District of Columbia. During Tufano’s tenure, AmeriHealth Caritas expanded its operations to multiple states and tens of thousands of lives.
