WACO, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--More than one-third of U.S. homeowners have called a plumber in the last two years, according to data from Mr. Rooter Plumbing®, a Neighborly® company, which delivers comprehensive plumbing services for homes and businesses throughout North America. These results come from a Mr. Rooter consumer survey conducted in early 2023 to gauge consumer sentiment around common plumbing services.
Whether it is a small or large plumbing mishap, American homeowners said that they are most likely call a plumber to assist with their repair needs, rather than a partner, friend or neighbor. This does not come as a surprise, since 7 in 10 homeowners were unsuccessful in trying to fix a plumbing issue independently.
“Your plumbing system is critical to a healthy home environment,” said Doyle James, president of Mr. Rooter Plumbing. “It’s essential for homeowners to understand and care for their systems. From clogged drains to damaged pipes and everything in between, Mr. Rooter Plumbing is eager and available to provide homeowners with the ease and security of knowing their plumbing needs are met with service they can count on.”
Leave it to the pros.
When asked, "What are the top reasons that deter U.S. homeowners surveyed from performing regular plumbing tasks?” respondents said,
- “I’m afraid of making the problem worse if I attempt to repair it myself.” (41%)
- “I lack the skills/knowledge.” (38%)
Top reasons for calling a plumber:
- Leaky pipes: Nearly half (49%) of U.S. homeowners would first call a plumber if they are experiencing a leaking pipe. This doesn’t come as a surprise since nearly 7 in 10 (69%) homeowners were unsuccessful in trying to repair a leaking pipe on their own.
- Low water pressure: Almost a third (31%) of homeowners would first call a plumber if they are experiencing low water pressure.
- Running toilet: 22% of homeowners would first call a plumber if they are experiencing a running toilet.
- Frozen pipes: When water freezes inside your plumbing pipes, it expands — putting the entire system at risk. Increased pressure inside the pipes makes them prone to cracking. Twenty percent of American homeowners surveyed experienced flooding due to frozen pipes.
- High water pressure: Not only is high water pressure dangerous for your pipes, it also adds to daily annoyances. The top frustrations from high water pressure in the home include leaky faucets, excessive spraying, noisy faucets, and malfunctioning appliances.
