AUSTIN, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Infinitum, creator of breakthrough air core motor, today announced it received a Gold award at the internationally-recognized 2023 Edison Awards ceremony in Ft. Myers, Florida on April 20th. The award honors Infinitum’s Aircore EC motor for its groundbreaking innovation in the Sustainability category. The Edison Awards™, named after the American inventor Thomas Alva Edison, not only recognizes world-changing innovations, but also the brilliant minds behind them.
Today, electric motors consume 53% of the world’s electricity and the majority of motors end up in landfills after 10-20 years. Infinitum’s Aircore EC motor, which is designed for commercial and industrial applications, uses 10% less energy, fewer raw materials and its modular design allows for housing, rotors, and stators to be reused multiple times to serve future generations.
Infinitum’s Aircore EC motor replaces heavy iron found in traditional motors with a lightweight printed circuit board (PCB) stator that is 10x more reliable. The motor is 50 percent smaller and lighter, uses 66 percent less copper and no iron, and consumes 10 percent less energy. Aircore EC includes an integrated variable frequency drive (VFD) made with silicon carbide technology, which results in unparalleled control of the motor, and can save upwards of 65 percent of energy use depending on the application.
“Our talented team has reimagined every aspect of a motor’s lifecycle to create the pioneering Aircore EC motor, and we are thrilled to be recognized with a Gold Edison Award,” said Ben Schuler, founder and CEO, Infinitum. “At Infinitum, we aren’t simply manufacturing motors - we are building a sustainable future with motors that can power the world with less energy and waste.”
All nominations were reviewed by the Edison Awards Steering Committee with the final ballot determined by an independent judging panel. The panel is comprised of more than 3,000 senior business executives and academics from the fields of product development, design, engineering, science, marketing and education, as well as past winners.
