SAN FRANCISCO--()--Today, Hinge Health, the leading digital joint and muscle clinic, announced the results of an analysis that demonstrates significant medical claims reductions for manufacturing and services employers that adopt Hinge Health. This first-ever, industry-specific digital musculoskeletal (MSK) claims analysis is based on a methodology independently reviewed by WTW, a leading global advisory, broking and solutions company.

Key findings from the Hinge Health analysis:

  • 2.7x ROI for services employers – The services industry, including engineering, business, health services and similar industries, reduced medical claims by $2,677 per member per year compared to the control group when using Hinge Health.
  • 2.0x ROI for manufacturing employers – Hinge Health demonstrated a $1,987 reduction in medical claims per member per year across automotive, natural resources, electronics, and other sectors within the manufacturing industry compared to the control group.
  • Medical claims reductions anchored by avoided surgeries – In both services and manufacturing industries, Hinge Health showed meaningful cost savings from reduced utilization, including injections, office visits, and imaging, with more than half of the claims reductions coming from avoided surgeries.

With economic concern escalating and healthcare costs continuing to rise, employers and industry leaders are looking for ways to responsibly decrease avoidable spend. MSK spend doubled over the last decade, attributed in large part to elective surgeries, without discernible outcome improvements. As this analysis points out, effective care that appropriately reduces medical services utilization, including surgery, imaging, and provider visits, can lead to major cost savings for employers.

“Hinge Health is committed to delivering credible, hard dollar MSK savings and industry-leading ROI for employers,” said Jim Pursely, president, Hinge Health. “This analysis offers a clear and proven solution for combating the avoidable spend and economic challenges that employers are facing today.”

“More than ever, employers are focused on benefits solutions that can reduce costs, and they need reliable analyses. Results tied to strong methodology, like these from Hinge Health, can play an important role in employers’ evaluation processes,” said Courtney Stubblefield, senior director, Insights and Solutions leader, WTW.

The analysis used a large clinical claims database covering more than 100 million people from 2016-2021. The study of the services industry evaluated 1,638 participants and the manufacturing study looked at 4,092 participants, which were equally divided between Hinge Health chronic program members and a control group. WTW reviewed Hinge Health’s methodology and determined that Hinge Health’s methodology was appropriate and consistent with current practices for a control study using claims data from employer-sponsored health plans.

This new analysis follows Hinge Health’s 136-employer analysis that found a 2.4x ROI for employers across 46 industries who adopt Hinge Health. Through multiple third-party validations, the digital clinic has consistently shown a financial benefit of more than 2x ROI across industries and member demographics, including a multi-employer study and Medicare population evaluation.
