The WellSky® Foundation Gifts $50,000 to Kansas City Hospice & Palliative Care to Enable Ongoing Services to Local Community

Kansas City-based organization gains needed resources to continue crucial support for patients receiving end-of-life care and their families

OVERLAND PARK, Kan.--()--Today the WellSky Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to improving quality of life for vulnerable populations, announced it has gifted $50,000 to Kansas City Hospice & Palliative Care, a nonprofit organization dedicated to delivering expert care, comfort, and guidance to individuals and families affected by serious illness or grief.

With funding from the WellSky Foundation, Kansas City Hospice & Palliative Care can expand their services such as Solace House, a center for grief and healing designed to be a nurturing place to guide children and adults through the difficult time following a family member’s death. Built to support people aged three to adult, Solace House offers a comprehensive set of services including peer support groups for children, teens, and adults; individual and family grief support, including family grief camps; referrals for crisis counseling; and more.

“At Kansas City Hospice & Palliative Care, we are proud to provide patients and their families within our community with support and guidance as they navigate serious illness and grief,” shared Kansas City Hospice President & CEO, David Wiley. “With the WellSky Foundation’s generous gift, we can expand our resources available to families, equipping children and adults with the comprehensive grief and counseling services they need to move forward after loss.”

Each year, Kansas City Hospice & Palliative Care serves more than 5,000 patients and their families, and hosts more than 26,000 visitors at its two inpatient facilities: Kansas City Hospice House™ and NorthCare Hospice House. The WellSky Foundation’s grant will also contribute to Kansas City Hospice House’s furniture replacement fund, providing increased comfort to those served by Kansas City Hospice & Palliative Care.

“The WellSky Foundation is steadfastly dedicated to filling critical gaps left by social barriers to health and wellness,” said Brett Fuller, executive director of the WellSky Foundation. “The team at Kansas City Hospice & Palliative Care is a clear demonstration of our mission at work, and the WellSky Foundation is thrilled to enable their continued efforts in the Kansas City area.”

The WellSky Foundation additionally granted a renewal of $50,000 to previous recipient Hephzibah Children’s Association, an organization that helps children thrive and families flourish through innovative, community-based programs and services in the Chicago area.

The WellSky Foundation is an engine for change, working tirelessly to address the nonmedical social determinants of health, including nutrition, safe housing, reliable transportation, and social connection to build healthy, thriving communities. Annually, WellSky celebrates a week of giving in support of the WellSky Foundation. This year, WellSky teammates designated Kansas City Hospice & Palliative Care and Hephzibah Children’s Association as the WellSky Foundation’s latest grant recipients.
