SPARTA, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Mobeus, a company born from the belief that technology should be frictionless, announced today that it had raised $24M, including a $12M Series A round. Mike Sutcliff, former group chief executive at Accenture Digital, and Richie Etwaru, seasoned technology executive and digital entrepreneur, co-founded Mobeus with a broad vision to create technology that improves how people express themselves. While in stealth, Mobeus assembled a remote-first international team of approximately 100 employees in six countries who have come together to redefine what it means to connect.
"With today’s announcement, Mobeus will be making investments toward building a global business that provides solutions for creating radically new experiences for the way people connect, collaborate, and transact with each other," said Mike Sutcliff, co-founder, and CEO of Mobeus. "We have been working behind the scenes, observing how humans connect and uncovering ways to improve on the status quo. Taking what we have learned, our team has created never-before-seen technology that will raise the standard for what is possible."
Mobeus was born in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, which accelerated the need for remote, on-demand meetings. While the percentage of employees using video conferencing technology topped nearly 80% by 2022, studies still show work needs to be done in areas that create deeper human connections. The company’s ground-breaking inventions will usher in a new future of unified realities, seamlessly blending different technological approaches. Mobeus’ goal is to create a highly immersive, interactive experience that enhances humanity and positively impacts relationships using the devices people already own, such as computers, phones, and televisions.
"After a few decades of adolescent recklessness, the technology industry is crossing into its adult-responsible age. Technology products and services can no longer irritate humans and damage our collective mental and social systems,” said Richie Etwaru, Chairman and Chief Creative Officer at Mobeus. He added, "The landscape has changed. Design and creativity are now the competitive frontiers for technology that is kind, loving, and accommodating to humans."
The Need for Virtual Connection
Mobeus is positioned to help alleviate remote barriers, setting a new standard for creating space for life. In November 2022, Mobeus plans to officially launch its first product, Airglass -- a new approach to digital communication and screen-sharing that mixes people, applications, and drawings. Airglass is a stand-alone application that introduces a range of new capabilities for its users to communicate with one another and, importantly, can also work as a complement to enhance calls occurring on other web conferencing software. The ultimate hope is to encourage deeper human connection.
Experienced Leadership Team Builds Global Offering
The co-founder pairing of Sutcliff and Etwaru combines different career paths and experiences to create an innovative and forward-looking company. Before founding Mobeus, Sutcliff spent his career at Accenture, creating practices and building businesses. His most recent venture was launching Accenture Digital and growing it to $20+ billion in revenues. Etwaru brings breadth and depth to his experience as a C-level Fortune 500 Company executive, one of the first Chief Digital Officers in the world, a serial author, an owner of international patents, and a founder of multiple ventures.
Leading with integrity and operating in a legal, ethical, and socially responsible manner are paramount to Sutcliff and Etwaru. Accordingly, the pair has assembled an experienced board of directors who bring diverse perspectives and provide ongoing counsel and oversight while ensuring the company adds value and acts in the best interests of its shareholders. The Mobeus Board of Directors is comprised of Etwaru; Sutcliff; Carla Grant Pickens, Global Chief Diversity & Inclusion Officer at IBM; Steve Oesterle, Partner and Chairman at Ambershore Group; and Ray Wang, Founder, Chairman, & Principal Analyst of Constellation Research.
Sutcliff and Etwaru are excited about the opportunity to develop the next generation of technologies on a global scale, working with a vast network of technology, content, expertise, consulting, media, and business partnerships.
Etwaru concluded, "We believe that a key reason for the tension between people and technology is that today's communication and collaboration tools were not designed for the use cases and workloads people have unexpectedly been thrust into. Combining art and science is a delicate dance and, when done right, will allow people to break out of traditional boxes and change how they engage with others."
