Yottaa Publishes Core Web Vitals Performance Benchmark

New Benchmark Enables eCommerce Brands To Compare Their Core Web Vitals Metrics Against Industry Averages

WALTHAM, Mass.--()--Yottaa, Inc., the leading cloud platform for accelerating eCommerce, today announced the publication of a benchmark on the performance of Core Web Vitals across 250 leading retailers and drawing on the shopping activity of more than 16 billion page views. This interactive benchmark enables online brands to compare how their sites are performing in terms of Core Web Vitals in comparison to other brands in the market.

Core Web Vitals are a set of website performance metrics developed by Google that highlight aspects of web page development that impact user experience, such as page loading, interactivity, and visual stability. A site’s Core Web Vital performance is considered by Google when ranking pages for organic search. The three Core Web Vitals are First Input Delay (FID), Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS), and Largest Contentful Paint (LCP).

Key Findings from the Core Web Vitals Benchmark

  • First Input Delay: Core Web Vitals compliance for FID varies slightly by device; mobile exceeds the benchmark on product detail pages for 81% of sites, while 95% of sites beat Google’s measure of good on computer screens.
  • Cumulative Layout Shift: eCommerce sites – in particular on mobile - have struggled to draw a stable page for shoppers. For example, only 17% of product detail pages and 12% of category pages are in compliance with the Core Web Vitals benchmark for CLS.
  • Largest Contentful Paint: LCP may be the most critical and discerning of Core Web Vitals standards to meet. Largest Contentful Paint compliance varies by page type. Most home pages – about 90% – are out of compliance, while about 85% of product detail pages also miss the benchmark.

“Google’s Core Web Vitals have become top of mind for brands and retailers aiming to optimize their organic search rankings,” said Rick Kenney, Managing Director of Leading Lights. “However, eCommerce site performance for these measures has been largely a mystery. This report on Core Web Vitals helps brands and retailers know how they compare, and where they are beating, meeting, or trailing these important benchmarks.”
