Apollo GraphQL Listed as a Sample Vendor in 2022 Gartner® Hype Cycle™ for Application Architecture and Integration

Company was recognized in the Graph APIs Category in the 2022 report

SAN FRANCISCO--()--Apollo GraphQL, the supergraph company, announced today that the company has been acknowledged as a Sample Vendor in the Graph APIs category of this year’s Gartner Hype Cycle for Application Architecture and Integration.

The Gartner Hype Cycle report defines Graph APIs as enabling “a developer to query and interact with data modeled as an object graph,” and that GraphQL can be “used to define graph APIs.” The report also says that “GraphQL enables API consumers to define the structure for the responses they require from APIs, enabling greater flexibility than REST APIs.”

Apollo is the leader in open source and commercial GraphQL technologies, helping engineering teams build supergraphs. A supergraph is a network of a company’s data, microservices and digital capabilities that acts as a composition layer, empowering engineering teams to accelerate application development and create incredible experiences for their customers. Apollo’s Supergraph Platform helps companies build, run and deliver supergraphs for their organizations, at scale.

The Gartner report also states that ”GraphQL federation is also finding adoption by organizations like Netflix and Airbnb as a means of composing a large graph schema from distinct and independently managed subgraphs.” Apollo Federation, an open architecture for composing subgraphs together into a single supergraph, is a core component of Apollo’s Supergraph Platform.

“It’s encouraging to see Graph APIs and GraphQL recognized as a maturing technology in the Hype Cycle,” said Matt DeBergalis, Apollo’s CTO and co-founder. “While we’re still at the beginning, GraphQL is no longer a technology that only a handful of early adopters are using. We see more and more developers, teams and organizations of all sizes using GraphQL and supergraphs to help deliver better products. We started Apollo because we believed in its transformative promise, and it’s amazing to see the community that has come along with us.”
