CHAPEL HILL, N.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill is ranked nationally across four adult specialties in US News’ 2022-23 “Best Hospitals” report, released today.
UNC Hospitals is cited as the number two hospital in North Carolina while UNC Health Rex in Raleigh is rated as the number three hospital and CarolinaEast Medical Center in New Bern is 12th in the state. To be nationally ranked in an adult specialty, a facility must be rated among the top 50 hospitals in the nation for that specialty. For 2022-23, UNC Hospitals is nationally ranked in the adult specialties of:
- Obstetrics & Gynecology
- Urology
- Ear, Nose & Throat
- Rehabilitation
As announced in June, UNC Children’s is nationally ranked by US News in eight pediatric specialties.
High Performing Specialties
A rating of "high performing" from US News indicates the hospital achieved a high score for that adult specialty, but was outside the top-50 rankings nationally. UNC Hospitals received a high performing rating in the adult specialties of Cancer, Gastroenterology & GI Surgery, Geriatrics and Orthopedics.
High Performing Common Adult Procedures and Conditions
In a separate category, “Common Adult Procedures and Conditions,” UNC Health Rex was judged high performing in 19 conditions / procedures while UNC Hospitals was judged high performing in 13 and CarolinaEast in eight.
