Cumby Group Launches New Division Focused on Moderately Priced Homes

MidCity Homes announces first master planned subdivision in South Austin

AUSTIN, Texas--()--Austin-based Cumby Group will ramp up its home production and is now offering more moderately priced for-sale homes with the launch of a new subdivision called Southstone.

MidCity Homes, a new division of Cumby Group recently began construction on its first subdivision, a 232-home community in South Austin. Located at 1300 W. Dittmar Rd. across the street from the Dittmar Recreational Center, the 42-acre development will offer duplex homes starting in the high $400’s, and single-family homes starting in the mid-$500’s.

Traditionally an urban infill builder and developer best known for its high-end boutique condominium projects, Cumby Group is expanding into volume building to help meet the Austin area’s critical need for more housing — particularly for-sale homes that are affordable to middle-class families.

The median home price for new and existing homes sold in the City of Austin in June was $550,000 according to the Austin Board of Realtors (ABOR). “Austin needs a lot more housing of all types to address our community’s critical housing shortage and resulting affordability crisis,” said Cumby Group Founder and CEO Bryan Cumby. “MidCity Homes will allow us to build far more for-sale homes at significantly lower prices in the City of Austin and in surrounding communities.”

Built in phases, Southstone is scheduled for completion late 2024. The first phase of 59 homes now on the market offers a Craftsman, Hill Country and Farmhouse-style home. Southstone’s amenities include a community swimming pool, shaded walking trail, and a 10-acre park featuring a playscape, shaded pavilion and grilling area.

“We aim to make the buying experience in Austin enjoyable again by putting the customer first and making them feel like a welcome part of the entire building process,” said Cumby Group’s VP of Construction Operations Sean McCaffrey. McCaffrey goes on to say “we want to work closely with buyers to ensure they end up with a high-quality home that makes them happy.”

Along with this latest expansion of Cumby Group to include a focus on single-family homes, they have also significantly ramped up its development of rental apartment communities. The company will be delivering the first of three new apartment communities located at Manor Rd. and Airport Blvd. in February of 2023, with The Emma Browning being the first. These communities will yield over 80 affordable units at 60% of the city of Austin’s Median Family Income (MFI).
