NEW YORK--()--BuzzFeed News, a world class, Pulitzer Prize-winning news organization, today announced that Karolina Waclawiak will serve as the outlet’s Editor-In-Chief. As the first woman Editor-In-Chief of BuzzFeed News, Waclawiak brings over 14 years of editorial experience to the helm of the news organization and previously served as the Executive Editor of Culture and Director of News Development for BuzzFeed Studios.

Throughout her career, Waclawiak has overseen and edited several stories that have been nominated and won prestigious journalism awards, including multiple National Magazine Awards. Her inspiring editorial vision, keen grasp of pop culture and the internet, extensive management experience, and unique perspective from her time working with BuzzFeed Studios, will strengthen BuzzFeed News and lead the organization into a new chapter as the most trusted news source for Millennial and Gen Z readers, with over 68 million global unique readers.

“BuzzFeed News became a trusted news brand because we never spoke down to our audience about the things that entertained them, whether it was the epic battle between the Kardashians and Blac Chyna, or Tiffany Pollard’s new life as a meme queen. And we took commentary by right wing figures like Alex Jones and Milo Yiannopolous seriously before other outlets,” said BuzzFeed News Editor-in-Chief Karolina Waclawiak. “We have an opportunity to bring readers crucial context and analysis to the stories that are dominating their online spaces while explaining why it matters to a larger audience. And we can do that while being a little chaotic, too. (Chaotic Good).”

Alongside her editorial vision, Waclawiak brings extensive studio development experience. As a six year veteran of BuzzFeed, she has worked across the company on Hollywood studio projects, including two recent documentary projects: The Rise And Fall of LuLaRoe and Once Upon A Time In Londongrad, both based on BuzzFeed News reporting. Waclawiak will continue to work alongside BuzzFeed Studios to bring groundbreaking journalism to life in Hollywood. As Editor-in-Chief, she will continue to guide writers and editors in crafting such stories, and will work with Rich Reid and the BuzzFeed Studios team on developing them.

Waclawiak is the author of the novels Life Events, How to Get into the Twin Palms and The Invaders. Formerly the deputy editor at The Believer, she joined BuzzFeed News in 2016.
