TAMPA, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Gale Healthcare Solutions (“Gale”), a leading healthcare services and payments platform, today announced the launch of the Gale Healthcare Foundation to support nursing education. Gale has committed $500,000 to the Foundation over the next two years to support educational scholarships to nursing schools. The Foundation aims to raise additional funds from other partners, with the goal of providing more than $1 million in total scholarship support.
The Foundation reflects Gale’s continued commitment to address the national nursing shortage. The American Nurses Association (ANA), which represents the interests of the nation’s 4.2 million nurses, recently reported that the increased need for nurses nationwide is a chronic issue that extends beyond the shortages caused by the pandemic. On September 1, 2021, the ANA sent a letter to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) urging that HHS declare the current and unsustainable nurse staffing shortage a national crisis.
“As we prepare to celebrate National Nurses Week, Gale Healthcare Solutions is proud to announce this new foundation to help train and educate the next generation of nursing professionals,” said Tony Braswell, Gale’s President and Founder. “In 2016, we introduced on-demand technology to help address the national nursing shortage. Today, we’re taking the next step in this important work, providing funding to help more individuals realize their dream of becoming a nurse or nursing assistant.”
The Gale Healthcare Foundation will award scholarships to support individuals enrolled in certified nursing assistant training programs and nursing degree programs for Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs)/Licensed Vocational Nurses (LVNs) and Registered Nurses (RNs). Partner organizations offering the scholarships must be certified by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing or a similarly recognized accreditation organization.
Along with the initial $500,000 commitment, the Foundation will seek to increase total funding through contributions from other organizations that share a commitment to nursing education. The Foundation will also provide education to the public on nursing as a valued, attainable, and financially rewarding career path.
“The Gale Healthcare Foundation offers practical, real-world solutions to address staffing challenges,” said Eric Dorsey, Gale’s Chief Nursing Officer. “As someone who started my nursing career as a certified nursing assistant, I know how helpful scholarship support can be in enabling people to continue their educational training. Whether starting a nursing career or continuing to the next level, we hope to have an immediate impact on aspiring clinicians with these awards.”
The application process for the first round of scholarships will be announced in Summer 2022. The Foundation expects to announce recipients in Fall 2022, with subsequent application and award processes to follow.
