SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Cerebral Inc. announces today executive appointments designed to strengthen the company’s mission to improve access to high-quality mental health care services.
David Mou, M.D., has been promoted to the role of President in addition to his existing position as Chief Medical Officer at Cerebral. The company has also hired Jacqueline Kniska as Head of Compliance. These decisions support the steps the company has taken to further ensure clinical quality, patient safety and compliance are at the forefront of its business.
“Our commitment to improving access to mental health care is unwavering,” said Kyle Robertson, CEO and Founder of Cerebral, in making the announcements. “David’s leadership at the company and in the mental health community have enabled us to provide the highest quality of care, and his role as President will help ensure that he can be my trusted partner in putting clinical quality and safety before anything else at Cerebral.”
Mou earned his medical degree from Harvard University and he completed his psychiatry training at Massachusetts General Hospital and McLean. He also has an M.B.A. and undergraduate degree from Harvard University. He joined Cerebral in February 2021. During his time as Chief Medical Officer, Mou has created two dedicated departments for Clinical Quality and Clinical Safety, each run by a dedicated psychiatrist. He led efforts to embed data science into the foundation of Cerebral in order to systematically monitor clinical outcomes and provide actionable insights for clinicians. These efforts have produced industry-leading clinical outcomes:
- 82% of Cerebral's patients say they have noticed an improvement in their anxiety symptoms after starting at Cerebral.
- 75% of patients who reported improvement in their depression see results in 60 days.
- 50% of patients who initially report suicidal ideation no longer harbor suicidal thoughts after treatment with Cerebral.
Kniska joins Cerebral from Virginia Commonwealth University where she served as Chief Ethics & Compliance Officer. She holds a law degree from Oklahoma City University, an undergraduate degree from James Madison University and has two leading compliance-related professional certifications: the Professional in Ethics and Compliance (LPEC) and Certified in Health Care Compliance (CHC). She will lead the company as it seeks to obtain its HITRUST certification status. She joined Cerebral in March 2022.
“We are making a difference in people’s lives and we are doing it with safety and clinical quality as our top priorities,” said Dr. David Mou. “We are tracking and measuring our results, leading us to better clinical outcomes.”
Margaret Miller, Chief Financial Officer, will be leaving Cerebral later this month for other opportunities. The decision to part ways with Cerebral was made mutually between Robertson and Miller months ago. The company’s Director of Strategic Finance, Nikhil Patel, and the company’s Controller, Elizabeth Circe, will be stepping up to lead the financial team in the interim, and the company has already initiated a search for a new Chief Financial Officer.
