BOULDER, Colo.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dr. Alexander Meininger, MD, Board-Certified, Sports Medicine Fellowship Trained Orthopaedic Surgeon and alumnus of the University of Colorado Department of Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology, has been invited to provide the Commencement Address at his alma mater during the Spring graduation ceremony.
“I am thrilled to be selected to give the commencement address at my Alma Mater this year. As a physician, and a scientist interested in advancing the field of Orthopaedic Surgery, I am excited to send these future graduates out into the world to go and do great things,” said Dr. Meininger.
Since his graduation from the University of Colorado Department of Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology (MCDB), Dr. Meininger has become a renowned expert in the field of orthopaedic surgery and sports medicine with numerous publications and textbook chapters. He is a clinical researcher as the principal investigator for a Phase III FDA cartilage repair study and is recognized as a Master Instructor of arthroscopic surgery by the Arthroscopy Association of North America. Currently, he is practicing as the Managing Partner of the Steamboat Orthopaedic & Spine Institute. Dr. Meininger is a Denver native and has remained an active member of the University of Colorado alumni.
Dr. Meininger recently was the first orthopedic surgeon in Colorado to successfully repair an ACL injury using the new Bridge-enhanced anterior cruciate ligament repair (BEAR) which was recently approved by the FDA. The BEAR combines suture repair of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) with a specific extracellular matrix scaffold that is placed in the gap between the torn ends of the ACL to facilitate ligament healing. The scaffold acts like a bridge enabling the patient to heal their own tissue.
