WILMINGTON, Del.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Today, President Biden added to the most diverse cabinet and federal judiciary in history, nominating Gregory B. Williams, a partner at the Wilmington office of Fox Rothschild LLP, to be the second Black judge to sit on the U.S. District Court for Delaware, and the only current judge of color, if confirmed. Following President Biden’s unprecedented appointment of Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson to the Supreme Court, the President continues to make good on his campaign promises to ensure that the nation’s courts reflect the diversity of the entire nation.
Said Chris Coffey, Citizens for a Pro-Business Delaware Campaign Manager: “We continue to be impressed by President Biden and his unshakable commitment to implementing real change through equitable representation in our federal courts. We wholeheartedly hope that Governor Carney will emulate President Biden’s leadership in his own State of Delaware, but we are discouraged, and rightly so. We have seen two missed opportunities on the Chancery Court over the last two years where Governor Carney could have appointed just the second Black judge to serve on the Chancery in its 230-year history. We will not rest until the Chancery Court, whose decisions affect millions of workers across the country, actually reflects the populations it is meant to serve. Governor Carney must commit to appointing a Black judge to the Chancery now.”
Citizens for a Pro-Business Delaware is a group made up of more than 5,000 members including employees of the global translation services company TransPerfect, as well as concerned Delaware residents, business executives and others. They formed in April of 2016 to focus on raising awareness with Delaware residents, elected officials, and other stakeholders about the unprecedented, forced sale of TransPerfect. While their primary goal of saving the company has been accomplished, they continue their efforts to fight for more transparency in the Delaware Chancery Court.
