PASADENA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Wavemaker Three-Sixty Health (Wavemaker 360), the nation’s leading venture fund focused singularly on early-stage (primarily seed) healthcare disruptors, welcomes Monica Jain, M.D. to its team of Venture Partners. Dr. Jain, a surgeon and the Surgical Innovation Officer at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, marks the eighth partner to join the fund, bringing a clinical perspective to Wavemaker 360’s portfolio of promising startups spanning the areas of health-tech, digital health, medical device, telehealth, pharma-tech, science and marketplaces.
"We couldn’t be happier to add such an esteemed partner to the fund as we move into this next phase of growth,” said Jay Goss, General Partner at Wavemaker 360. “The country and healthcare industry are addressing significant challenges such as pandemic recovery, ‘hospital at home,’ and the substantial staff shortages. These issues plus the opportunity to invest in new technologies reinforce the value of having an outstanding clinician like Dr. Jain from a world class healthcare organization join our team to guide the healthcare disruptors in our growing portfolio.”
Dr. Jain comes to Wavemaker 360 as a multidisciplinary healthcare expert between her current role at Cedars-Sinai and her background in biomedical engineering and healthcare innovation. Dr. Jain is passionate about narrowing the divide between innovative technologies and their clinical applications. She has consulted for and mentored numerous healthcare startup companies, and works on several leadership, education, clinical efficacy, human factors, and quality improvement projects. She understands that an integrative approach is vital for healthcare disruptors when it comes to creating true innovation in the industry.
“Joining Wavemaker 360 allows me to take my passion for interacting with early-stage healthcare companies to the next level,” said Dr. Jain. “I’m eager to infuse clinical wisdom into the minds of emerging startups in the digital health and med-tech fields. So many companies have excellent ideas that can solve serious problems in the healthcare space, but they often lack the insider guidance that’s needed for proper implementation and adoption in the healthcare industry. My aim is to ensure that all companies Wavemaker 360 invests in are attuned to the purpose of their product so there are no roadblocks as they go to market.”
Raised in a family of engineers, Dr. Jain has always been curious about developing new technologies to solve complex problems. Fusing her love of technology innovation with the human perspective gained through patient work in medicine, she is poised to add leading-edge insights to the Wavemaker 360 team and its growing portfolio of seed-stage startups.
In addition to her extensive professional experience, Dr. Jain holds leadership positions in a number of national organizations including: Heal.LA (Steering Committee Member); Society of Surgical Ergonomics (Co-Founder, Executive Committee Member, Applied Ergonomics Committee Chair, Research Committee Co-Chair, IT Committee Co-Chair); Association of Women Surgeons (Clinical Practice Committee Chair); American College of Surgeons (Committee on Emerging Surgical Technologies and Education member); American Association of Endocrine Surgeons (Career and Leadership Development Committee member); Association for Academic Surgery (Education Committee and Publications Committee member); and California Life Sciences (Emerging Innovation Subcommittee member).
Dr. Jain holds a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering from Boston University, acquired a Doctor of Medicine degree from Boston University School of Medicine, completed her General Surgery Residency at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, and completed an Endocrine Surgery Fellowship at the University of California San Francisco Medical Center.
