The New York State School Boards Association Encourages Community Support of Local School Boards

Launches integrated communications campaign underscoring the important links between school boards, student achievement and our democracy

ALBANY, N.Y.--()--The New York State School Boards Association (“NYSSBA”) today announced the launch of a new campaign to encourage communities across New York to support their local school boards in providing a quality educational experience for every student.

“Public schools form the bedrock of our communities and country,” said NYSSBA President Peggy Zugibe. “Likewise, we see school board service and education as the foundations for democracy—they really are the root of everything. With this campaign, we hope to increase the amount of people engaging with and, ultimately, supporting school boards and board members across New York State in their pursuit of higher levels of student achievement.”

The integrated, marketing communications campaign—which will run through May—chiefly aims to communicate the important link between successful school boards and student achievement while raising awareness of positive school board member experiences. Additionally, NYSSBA is working to underscore the meaningful impact school board service has on our local democracies and the role school boards play to ensure a quality education for every student.

The objectives of this NYSSBA campaign, which will utilize a mix of traditional advertising and public relations strategies are to ultimately:

  • Enlighten and educate the public about the importance of school board service and how it relates to supporting our democracy and ensuring that students receive the best education possible.
  • Engage with relevant community groups to raise awareness of the connection between school board service and a healthy and resilient democracy.
  • Encourage the electorate to become more informed about the role of their local school board and knowledgeable about local school board issues.

“The vast majority of our school board members volunteer their time and are dedicated to advancing student achievement throughout New York," said NYSSBA Executive Director Robert S. Schneider. “Our goal is to encourage local community collaboration to help our school boards ensure each student across the state has access to an equitable, high-quality education.”
