BOSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Leading global professional services firm Alvarez & Marsal (A&M) has appointed Richard Bergin as a Managing Director with its Disputes and Investigations practice and as North America Co-Leader of the firm’s Economic Consulting team. Dr. Bergin’s hire reflects A&M’s commitment to help clients solve for the competitive, regulatory and strategic challenges that can accompany disputes and investigations.
With more than 20 years’ experience testifying on economic damages, loss causation and valuation, Dr. Bergin specializes in antitrust, structured finance, international arbitration and securities cases. He has testified numerous times as an expert witness in trial, arbitration, international arbitration and before government agencies, he has been admitted as an economic expert in various federal and state courts, the International Chamber of Commerce, International Centre for Dispute Resolution, the American Arbitration Association and various arbitrations around the world.
Dr. Bergin has advised clients in a variety of industries, including energy, pharmaceuticals, software, electronics, chemical, and financial services. He has assisted clients with allegations of monopolization, collusion, theft of intellectual property, fraud, and market manipulation.
Throughout his career, Dr. Bergin has addressed a range of issues, including forensic financial and economic analysis, market power, structured finance, economic damages and valuation of investments in various asset classes including firms, equities, commodities, derivatives, and structured products, including asset-backed securities and collateralized debt obligations.

Dr. Bergin most recently served as a Managing Director with AlixPartners’ Economic Practice. Prior to that, he served as a Principal for KPMG, and as a Managing Director for FTI Consulting. Dr. Bergin has taught programs on economics, valuation, and finance at New York University and Harvard Business School.
Dr. Bergin earned a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from the University of Sydney, and a doctorate in business administration (DBA) and an MBA from Harvard Business School.
