Union Home Mortgage Foundation Announces Fourth Quarter Grant Recipients

Awardees include 10 deserving nonprofits in seven states

STRONGSVILLE, Ohio--()--The Union Home Mortgage Foundation, a charitable organization whose mission is to equip families with the tools and resources to achieve economic self-sufficiency, has announced its grant recipients for the fourth quarter of 2021. The list includes 10 recipients across seven states receiving grants totaling $82,500.

Through this cycle of donations, the Foundation provided support to organizations making a tangible impact in communities within the Foundation’s footprint in its strategic focus areas of financial literacy, career readiness, education and housing.

The fourth quarter 2021 grant recipients are:

Cleveland, Ohio

  • The Legal Aid Society of Cleveland - $5,000 in support of their work securing stable housing for homeowners who face issues with their mortgages and face the possibility of having their homes foreclosed upon.
  • Volunteers of America Ohio & Indiana - $20,000 in support of the Judge Sara J. Harper Village, which is a permanent supportive housing program being built in Cleveland for female veterans. This funding will go towards furnishing their second community room in the village. This funding will also support Art for Hope, a program created by UHM partners, within facilities in Cleveland; Columbus; and Sandusky, Ohio.
  • CHN Housing Partners - $10,000 in support of their Lease Purchase Program and Scholar House. CHN created its Lease Purchase Program to provide a 15-year pathway to homeownership for families earning 60% or less of the area median income.
  • Enterprise Community Partners - $5,000 in support of their work to increase income for people experiencing homelessness as a strategic way to improve housing stability and prevent returns to shelters.

Indianapolis, Indiana

  • Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Indiana - $10,000 in support of their Little Impacts and Big Futures programming. The Little Impacts program is designed to develop skill sets necessary for youth to achieve their full potential, while the Big Futures program offers career and college readiness programing to lay the foundation for success in education and in life.

Durham, North Carolina

  • Housing for New Hope - $7,500 in support of their Streets to Home Supportive Housing Program, which provides long-term rental assistance and supportive services to those living with a disability and experiencing chronic homelessness.

Las Vegas, Nevada

  • Family Promise of Las Vegas - $5,000 in support of their financial literacy workshops and counseling. In the past two years, they have held over 100 workshops and provided close to 300 "New Beginnings Financial Literacy" workbooks dedicated to helping families manage a budget and be more fiscally responsible.

Tampa, Florida

  • Habitat for Humanity of Hillsborough County - $10,000 in support of their annual efforts to build a new home for a Tampa family in need. Habitat’s Homeownership program empowers low- and moderate-income Tampa Bay families living in substandard housing to become homeowners after participating in financial education courses and committing to spending at least 300 hours of their time to help build their own home as well as the homes of other Habitat candidates.

Houston, Texas

  • Easter Seals of Greater Houston - $5,000 in support of their homebuyer education program for low-income families, with a strong focus on military families and people with disabilities. This program helps families understand credit and move toward building assets and savings through participation in financial literacy courses.

Chicago, Illinois

  • HFS Chicago Scholars - $5,000 in support of their education programming for their HFS Chicago Scholars. HFS Chicago Scholars provides a path to college for highly motivated high school students throughout the Chicagoland area by providing various educational enrichment and mentorship programs and resources.
