CHICAGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--GigNet, a Digital Infrastructure company with an extensive regional fiber-optic network from Cancun to Tulum, announced today that it has named Jane A. Garcia as a Founding Member of its newly formed Mexico Advisory Council. Ms. Garcia has over 27 years’ experience in the hospitality and tourism industry in Mexico and has recently been elected as President of Skål Mexico for 2022. Skål International is the world’s largest group of professionals in tourism.
GigNet is forming the advisory group to provide additional input and insight into GigNet’s current and future plans for Digital Transformation of the region. The Mexico Advisory Council will be comprised of hospitality industry professionals, local business leaders, developers, and other stakeholders with working knowledge of the importance of high-speed Internet for businesses and residences as well as the positive impact that access to advanced broadband has on economic development. The Advisory Council will also provide guidance to GigNet on key topics such as sustainable tourism and extending broadband access for education and healthcare in the communities that GigNet Mexico serves.
Ms. Garcia currently serves as a public and private advisor to the tourism industry specializing in management and marketing, business strategy, communications, organizational development, vacation ownership, and medical tourism. In addition to her role with Skål Mexico, she serves as Official Mexico Correspondent for REPORTRIP, an online news agency focused on tourism. She has served as Vice President and advised in the areas of Social Responsibility for AFEET Quintana Roo, an organization of professional women in the tourism industry. She is a Member and Advisor to the Board of the Federation of Tourism Entrepreneurs of Quintana Roo. She was also General Director of Tourism of the Municipality of Cancun from 2017 to 2018 and previously served in various management positions with many leading resorts in the Cancun region.
Ms. Garcia has received recognition for her leadership in the Mexico tourism industry including the Order of Merit for Skål International, the Skål Sustainable Tourism Award, and was named in 2019 and 2020 in ‘Leaders Who Move Quintana Roo.’ She participates in many civic and social organizations including serving on the Advisory Board in Quintana Roo for Child Rehabilitation and Inclusion Centers (CRIT), the largest private child rehabilitation organization in Mexico.
