MINNEAPOLIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--US Solar is pleased to announce that the City of Rocky Ford, Colorado has subscribed to one of its local community solar gardens. Community solar gardens in Colorado allow businesses, public entities, and residents to subscribe to an offsite solar garden without having solar equipment on their property. Subscribers receive savings through a bill credit on their electric bill based on the production of the solar garden and support the development of local, clean energy.
The City of Rocky Ford subscribed to USS Giveback Solar, US Solar's 2.5 megawatt (MW) community solar garden in the Black Hills Energy utility territory. In addition to the capacity allocated to the City of Rocky Ford, US Solar is subscribing residential and commercial customers, including a total of 600 kW of capacity reserved for low-income subscribers.
"We are excited to partner with the City of Rocky Ford to bring the benefits of community solar to its local municipality, and these savings will enhance the critical services that Rocky Ford provides its residents," said Erica Forsman, VP of Origination at US Solar.
"Subscribing to US Solar's Solar Garden allows our community to benefit from solar without any upfront costs or additional facilities to maintain," said Shannon Wallace, Rocky Ford's City Manager. "US Solar made it simple to sign up and enroll our city in this exciting program."
US Solar has worked with over 30 municipalities across the country and is excited to add the city of Rocky Ford to its family of subscribers. US Solar is developing and subscribing community solar projects in Colorado across the Black Hills Energy and Xcel Energy service territories.
