REDWOOD CITY, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Learnfully, a first of its kind personalized learning platform, today announced the launch of its Executive Functioning Challenge series, a hands-on simulation designed to put students in the shoes of those with Executive Functioning challenges.
The goal of the series, which is designed for educators, is to allow participants to gain perspective about learners of varied backgrounds and abilities. The series provides a window into the frustrations that learners who struggle with Executive Functioning experience every day. This provides educators with the resources and perspective to better serve students with a diverse set of skills and challenges.
This simulation series comes at a key moment: today, according to the Journal of Attention Disorders, an estimated 30% of school-age children with ADHD also have executive functioning issues. Meanwhile, the COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted routines and transformed the educational experience for millions of children.
"Executive Functioning issues are a challenge for many students, and after a year of remote learning, key routines and habits have been disrupted and these challenges are exacerbated," said Jess Corinne, Head of Educational Services, Learnfully. "We're proud to offer this cutting-edge series at this critical juncture to educators and work closely with them to develop holistic, comprehensive ways to address this important area of learning."
The simulations, which take place both in-person and virtually, walk educators through different stations of Executive Functioning-related tasks that could be encountered in a classroom: working memory, emotional regulation, impulse control, organization, planning and prioritization, and sustained attention. Learning simulations have proven to be an effective teaching tool in schools across the country, increasing the awareness of learners who think differently.
The first simulation was held last month at Los Altos Christian School in the Bay Area.
"The Learnfully EF simulations are filling a key void in the educational marketplace: providing a firsthand sensory experience for educators -- so they can better support the challenges their students face," said Dr. Sheila Murphy, an educational expert. "The result is that educators are equipped to meet the needs of a range of diverse students and work with them in a manner that best suits their strengths."
Learnfully plans to conduct more than several simulations through the end of 2021 in partnership with schools, educator networks, and parent organizations, and expects more than a hundred participants.
