CULVER CITY, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Encantos, an award-winning education technology company, today launched a revolutionary new storyteaching platform that empowers creators to help kids learn through stories. The Encantos app brings together a curated mix of audio, video, books, and interactive games from creators, called “storyteachers,” representing a diverse range of subjects and perspectives for children ages 8 and under. As a supplement to traditional education, the stories teach key learning, literacy, and life skills helping prepare kids to thrive in a fundamentally changed world.
Grounded in child development research1 that shows kids learn best through stories, Encantos worked with academics, researchers, and practitioners from a wide range of disciplines to develop its storyteaching methodology. As a public benefit corporation (PBC), Encantos is making a purposeful and meaningful impact on what and how kids learn by democratizing, diversifying and personalizing learning.
“It’s not just what you learn but also how you learn and from whom that matters,” said Encantos Co-Founder and CEO Steven Wolfe Pereira. “We have built a creator platform designed for kids and curated for learning, empowering creators to help kids learn what is often missing in the classroom. As most schools are back to in-person learning, parents are looking for engaging ways to enrich and supplement learning at home using a safe and trusted platform – and that’s exactly why we’ve built Encantos.”
The Encantos platform was inspired by the groundbreaking World Economic Forum (WEF) report New Vision for Education: Unlocking the Potential of Technology. The WEF’s research found that in addition to language arts, math, and science, today’s fast-changing world requires students to possess and be adept at 21st-century learning, literacy, and life skills. These skills are the new fundamentals for a fundamentally changed world:
- Learning skills like creativity, critical thinking, communication, and collaboration that prepare kids to work through challenges with people and complex situations.
- Literacy skills are much more than just reading. They include civics, environmental literacy, financial literacy, information and media literacy, culture and multilingualism, and STEM.
- Life skills like adaptability, curiosity, empathy, leadership, perseverance and social-emotional awareness to help kids build character and confidence.
“Kids today are exploring a world far more complex than the one we grew up in – and are facing challenges we didn’t have to face,” said Encantos Chief Impact Officer Anna María Chávez. “Learning the new fundamentals and engaging with diverse perspectives teaches them to think creatively, to adapt and solve problems, to understand and feel at home in communities beyond their own, and to express their thoughts and feelings with clarity.”
More than 50% of kids in the United States are multicultural, yet children's entertainment and education still does not reflect today’s diverse world. Families expect greater representation in what their kids are seeing and learning. Encantos is bringing culturally authentic voices together on a platform that provides the broader range of perspectives that has been missing.
The Encantos app features curated, age-based storyteaching experiences for kids ages 8 and under. The app is organized around content types – audio, books, games, and videos – and creator channels, called “storyworlds.” The app launches with a range of storyworlds including the #1 bilingual preschool brand Canticos along with new creator storyworlds such as La Petite Petra, Tyrus’ Kids, and Wally the Worried Walrus.
“Creators who want to help kids learn are educators with superpowers,” said Encantos Co-Founder and Chief Story Officer Susie Jaramillo. “We are empowering them with a platform that connects their stories directly with the kids they want to inspire. We are helping storyteachers bring their storyworlds to life so kids can learn as they play in them. At Encantos, our goal is to make learning fun for kids and painless for parents.”
The Encantos app is now available in the Apple App Store on iOS mobile and tablet devices for $6.99/month or $57.99/year.
