COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Realm of Caring (RoC), a nonprofit dedicated to cannabinoid research, has published its latest paper in the medical journal Frontiers in Psychiatry, examining the benefits of medicinal cannabis products for individuals with anxiety and depression. The longitudinal study, using data gathered from RoC’s Observational Research Registry (ORR), showed that individuals who initiated use of artisanal cannabidiol (CBD) products or continued use of CBD products at follow-up endorsed significant reductions in both anxiety and depression, improved sleep, and less pain compared with those not using CBD.
“The biggest misconception this study addresses is that CBD doses need to be between 400-600 mg before positive psychiatric effects can be achieved,” said Dr. Nicolas Schlienz, Research Director for Realm of Caring. “We observed positive effects in people taking an average of only about 60 mg per day, 1/10th of that dose.”
Schlienz conceptualized and co-authored the study alongside RoC’s President, Heather Jackson; Dr. Marcel Bonn-Miller, Vice President, Human and Animal Research at Canopy Growth Corporation; Dr. Ryan Vandrey, Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine; Erin Martin, Predoctoral Fellow at the Medical University of South Carolina; and Dr. Justin Strickland, Instructor at Johns Hopkins University.
Researchers sourced data from an online web survey conducted over a four-year period (2016-2020) focusing on participants’ self-reported anxiety and depression symptoms, and the need for an assessment on non-pharmaceutical CBD products widely available to consumers.
