ENGLEWOOD, Colo.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Today, Bona® is celebrating key milestones in its sustainability journey. Recently, the company received Safer Choice certification from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for six of its floor and surface cleaning products. Additionally, Bona is rolling out enhancements to its formulations of Bona® Hardwood Floor Cleaner and Bona® Hard Surface Floor Cleaner to better meet consumer needs while maintaining safety and efficacy. The amplified formulations are crafted with plant-derived ingredients, use waterbased and biodegradable solutions, and are free of parabens, formaldehyde, ammonia, phthalates, and phosphates. Finally, Bona is transitioning its microfiber cleaning pads to 90% post-consumer recycled (PCR) material.
“Our R&D department has been steering our development to important programs such as the U.S. EPA’s Safer Choice,” said John Schierlmann, Director of Research & Development, Bona. “With a recognized set of standards and guidelines, we feel this is the best program to deliver the safest chemistry to our customers. Our customers expect us to be utilizing the safest ingredients for their families and floors.”
Products that carry the Safer Choice label have been evaluated by the EPA to ensure they contain ingredients that are safer for both human and environmental health while also lowering the risk to children and adults from hazards like cancer, neurotoxic and developmental effects. These products are better for indoor air quality and less toxic to fish and other aquatic life as they break down more quickly through natural processes. Bona’s Safer Choice-certified products include: Bona® Hardwood Floor Cleaner, Bona® Hard-Surface Floor Cleaner, Bona® PowerPlus Hardwood Floor Deep Cleaner, Bona® PowerPlus Wood Surface Deep Cleaner, Bona® Hardwood Floor Cleaner - Cedar Wood, and Bona® Hard-Surface Floor Cleaner -Lemon Mint.
“The Safer Choice certification is an important, hard-earned milestone for us at Bona,” said Andy Telatnik, Director of Marketing, Bona. ““For more than 100 years Bona has embraced its mission to bring out the beauty in floors while delivering on a promise to minimize our environmental impact by innovating safer systems and products to the highest sustainability standards.”
The company has also enhanced elements of its Bona Spray Mop and Microfiber Mop systems which, since the launch in 2008, has been a sustainably-focused system with refillable cartridges and machine washable microfiber pads. The mops will soon come with microfiber pads made from 90% post-consumer recycled (PCR) material. The microfiber pads are also available separately for cleaning, deep cleaning and dusting applications.
The new pads will have the same quality, function, and durability as the previous Bona pads.
