ATLANTA--()--September 12-18 is Housekeeper Appreciation Week, a good time to acknowledge the important contributions of those who clean, sanitize, tidy-up and otherwise create order in our homes.

The world would likely be a more stressful place without the more than 68,000 housekeepers who clean and organize homes across the U.S. on a regular basis.

“Studies1 show that there are a lot of psychological benefits in having a clean, orderly home,” said Brian Wiersma, Senior Director of Brand Operations of Merry Maids, the largest housekeeping service in the country with more than 450 franchise locations and 5,000 professional housekeepers. “A clean, organized home tends to produce positive emotions such as calmness and a sense of well-being.”

Maintaining a clean house is not always easy. In an online survey conducted by Merry Maids, more than one third (34 percent) of women surveyed stated that hiring someone to help clean the house is actually more of a necessity than a luxury.

Busy families find it hard to make time for deep cleaning, and now with more people working and studying from home, there is often more clutter and mess to contend with. Meanwhile, stress, along with grime, continue to accumulate.

Professional cleaning services provide the relief time-stretched homeowners are looking for. Merry Maids estimates that team members spend more than 6 million hours in customers’ homes each year providing clean and healthy environments.

“Many families are stretched between work and family activities,” said Bob Cunningham, a Merry Maids franchise owner. “They want a clean home but the time is just not there. They can have someone come in once a week and make the house clean, sanitized and orderly.”

Monica Green, a homemaker and professional housekeeper who works for Merry Maids in Birmingham, AL, knows the benefits of both a clean home and a rewarding job. She is proud of her role in restoring balance to her customers’ lives by taking care of their homes. She also enjoys the competitive salary and benefits that Merry Maids provides, along with a flexible schedule and no weekend work so she can balance her own family life.

“This is kind of the perfect job for me,” said Green, who has four young children with her husband, Scott. “I enjoy cleaning because I know how it feels when my home is clean. I get a lot of satisfaction from cleaning. It’s good psychologically for me, too!”
