Senior Leaders from Ford Motor Company, Department of Energy, and LG Energy Solutions to Keynote The Battery Show and Electric & Hybrid Vehicle Technology Expo North America

NOVI, Mich.--()--Senior leaders from Ford Motor Company, Department of Energy, and LG Energy Solutions are confirmed to headline The Battery Show and Electric & Hybrid Vehicle Technology Expo, North America’s largest and most comprehensive advanced battery technology and E/HV trade show and conference.

Slated for September 14-16 at the Suburban Collection Showplace in Novi, Michigan, the in-person event is strategically designed to propel the global market for large and advanced batteries that is forecasted to reach nearly $110 billion by 2024, a market largely driven by the current unprecedented levels of E/HV growth worldwide. “Electric car registrations increased by 41% in 2020, despite the pandemic-related worldwide downturn in car sales which dropped 16%,” as stated by the International Energy Agency Global EV Outlook 2021 report.

Addressing this unprecedented growth, the 2021 keynote speakers include:

  • David Howell, Vehicle Technologies Deputy Director, Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy, at Department of Energy
  • Denise Gray, President North America, LG Energy Solutions
  • Brett Hinds, Chief Engineer, Electrified Powertrain Systems at Ford Motor Company

“We could not be happier to have such well-respected leaders in the industry addressing such timely and forward-looking topics: supply chain and regulatory policy, the future of the US battery market, and the global transition to electric vehicles,” said Jenny McCall, group event director, The Battery Show and E/HV Tech Expo, Informa Markets. “Each keynote address was developed with the intention of delivering topical insights for attendees to turn into practice so they, too, can have a positive impact on the rapidly progressing advanced battery and E/HV markets.”

McCall continued: “As a result of the strongest conference speaker lineup to date plus a robust exhibitor roster, this year’s event has attracted attendees from industry-leading companies including A123 Systems, BMW, CATL, FCA, Ford, GM, Honda, LG Chem, Magna Powertrain, Panasonic, Rivian, and Tesla, underscoring the critical need for industry connection and deal-making.”

Federal Efforts to Support the Lithium Battery Supply Chain and Sustainability | Virtual broadcast from the event
Tuesday, September 14 | 9:30 a.m. – 10:15 a.m. EST
A
dvanced, lithium-based batteries play an integral role in 21st-century technologies such as electric vehicles and stationary grid storage that will be critical to securing America’s clean energy future. Demand for EVs and stationary storage alone is projected to increase the size of the lithium battery market five- to ten-fold by the end of the decade. Today, the U.S. relies heavily on importing advanced battery components from abroad, exposing the nation to supply chain vulnerabilities and the cost of these technologies. In June 2021, the Biden Administration released the 100-Day review of high capacity batteries—directed by President Biden’s “Executive Order on America’s Supply Chains”—which assesses vulnerabilities and opportunities in the current and forecasted battery supply chain landscape and identifies policy recommendations to address them. In addition, the Department of Energy, on behalf of the Federal Consortium for Advanced Batteries (FCAB) released the “National Blueprint for Lithium Batteries 2021-2030” which codifies the findings of the battery supply chain assessment, and details how strategic and immediate federal investments will position the U.S. to lead an emerging global market.

The blueprint lays out five critical goals and key actions to guide federal agency collaboration to secure the nation’s long-term economic competitiveness and create good-paying jobs for American workers, while supporting the Biden Administration’s decarbonization goals. In addition to DOE, FCAB is led by the Departments of Defense, Commerce, and State and includes many organizations across the federal government. This presentation will detail key findings from these reports and discuss on-going or planned Federal actions to achieve the Key Goals and Recommendations necessary to support and enable the establishment of a robust and resilient high capacity battery supply chain in the U.S.

LG's Vision of US Battery Manufacturing & Electrification
Wednesday, September 15 | 9:00 a.m. – 9:45 a.m. EST
In this keynote address, Gray will address how battery technology innovation has been an enabler for alternative propulsions and mobility solutions. The baseline has been established, but the outlook is limitless. Amazing researchers and engineers have developed the technology to meet propulsion and mobility requirements. The mobility solutions available to the consumers will be breathtaking.

The Global Transition to Electric Vehicles
Thursday, September 16 | 9:00 a.m. – 9:45 a.m. EST
Climate change and increased urbanization around the world that have made the need for zero-emissions transportation clearer than ever. In this speech, Brett Hinds of Ford talks about how rapid advances in battery development are making the mainstream adoption of electric vehicles possible – and also about the need to develop products that appeal to a wider range of audiences to accelerate the transition to zero-emissions vehicles.

Press conferences, exclusively available for press registered to attend the event, to immediately follow each keynote presentation.

In addition to this year’s world-class keynote lineup, The Battery Show and E/HV Technology Expo will feature an Advanced Propulsion Centre and UK Pavilion, thoughtfully designed to pull together exhibitors who have advanced new technology and are looking for partner organizations to sell to or develop cutting-edge technology with. The APC exists to ensure the UK remains competitive in the research, development, and production of low emission technologies. The 10-year program is born out of the collaboration between UK government and industry, the APC aims to save 50 million tons of CO2 by 2023, safeguard or create 30,000 jobs in the UK and make £1 billion of match funding available to research and develop low emission propulsion technologies in the UK.

Notable expo floor exhibitors confirmed to date include Advanced Battery Concepts, ATOP, Carl Zeiss, Cascadia Motion, Curtis Instruments, Dana Corp., Dassault Systems, Dewesoft, ESI Automotive, HB Fuller, Honeywell, Hongfa, Mitsubishi Chemical, Nordson Sealant Equipment, Odawara, Rise Robotics, and Webasto.
