TORONTO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Ryan, a leading global tax services and software provider, announced that the annual Sandra Cawley Awards in Education, Nursing, and Social Work for Indigenous Students have been approved by The University of British Columbia (UBC) Senate Board in honor of Ryan Principal and Regional Leader Sandra Cawley.
These awards are given as annual scholarships worth $5,000 each, through a gift from the Y.P. Heung Foundation in honor of Ms. Cawley for a First Nations, Inuit, or Métis student of Canada studying at UBC in the Bachelor of Education program, the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program, and the Bachelor of Social Work program. Students awarded are those who have achieved superior academic standing and demonstrated leadership and community involvement. The first awarding of these scholarships will be available for the 2021/2022 winter academic session.
Ms. Cawley has been a board member at UBC for more than five years and currently serves as the Vice Chair of the Board. She is also on the UBC Properties Trust Board and has contributed to the UBC Foundation for more than 15 years, providing support for students within their first and second years of university to expand their education through community involvement.
“Congratulations to our friend and colleague, Sandra Cawley, for the tremendous honor of having a foundation created under her name to provide annual scholarships to students for years to come,” said Ryan President of Canadian Operations Garry Round. “Sandra’s involvement with UBC extends beyond her board membership. The time she devotes and the support she provides to UBC students have, and will continue to have, an invaluable impact on their lives.”
