UNION CITY, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Grupo Flor — one of California’s early vertically-integrated cannabis companies with roots along California’s Central coast continues its retail expansion with the opening of the first cannabis retail shop in the United States located within a major regional “power center.” A regional “power center” is understood as a large outdoor shopping center with three or more Big Box retail stores.
The “FLOR” branded cannabis shop will be Grupo Flor’s 5th store in California and its second shop opened this year. Union Landing is a million square foot open-air shopping center located in Union City along Highway 880 between San Jose and San Francisco. Looking more like a high-end designer fashion boutique than a traditional cannabis retail shop, the FLOR shop features a modern aesthetic of crisp marble flooring, soft ambient lighting and a 2,500 square foot interior to explore one of the state’s largest selection of cannabis product types and leading brands.
“This is our best store design yet, but the real magic is our people and customer service,” says Grupo Flor co-founder and VP of Retail Mike Bitar. Union City community leadership is also excited about the new store. “Grupo Flor assured the City they could open a shop in less than three months of our local authorization, and they kept their promise. Navigating a complicated regulatory scheme, Grupo Flor believes the FLOR shop in Union City is one of the fastest opened cannabis retail stores in the state’s history.
FLOR will occupy a recently vacated cell-phone retail shop in the Union Landing shopping center. Bill Schrader of The Austin Group, a Bay Area commercial real estate development firm and FLOR’s landlord, says, “We received eight offers from leading cannabis retail operators but Grupo Flor was a clear choice after visiting competitor stores. We expect FLOR to drive a lot of fresh shopping traffic into Union Landing - it’s a win-win from a property development standpoint.”
