BURBANK, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--EstrellaTV, a leading Spanish-language broadcasting network in the U.S., announced today that its #1 hit show Tengo Talento, Mucho Talento concluded its first-ever all-female special edition with an unprecedented moment in the show’s history, a split of the first-place grand prize between Ashley Acosta of Houston, Texas and Viririana Sandoval of Tallahasee, Florida, who both will share the $100,000 prize.
In a first-of-a-kind season, the network’s critically acclaimed and highly rated talent search competition Tengo Talento, Mucho Talento, dedicated its 24th edition to female contestants. Two contestants beat out 10 fellow finalists, whose talent was primarily in the singing category, in a nail-biting and suspenseful two-hour finale. In a season that saw more than 3,500 contestants auditioning and over 200 participants making the show’s on-air qualifying rounds, Tengo Talento, Mucho Talento made history once again by announcing an unprecedented split of the $100,000 first place prize, which was decided by the two winners, agreed to by the judges and finally announced by Luis Coronel.
The two-hour finale featured special performances by some of Regional Mexican music’s top acts, such as Los Dos Carnales, Carin Leon, and La Adictiva, as well as guest judge Carolina Ross, in addition to the series’ Grammy-winning celebrity judges Chiquis and Ana Barbara.
“We kicked off Women’s History Month this year by announcing this all-female cast of contestants because we wanted to celebrate female empowerment and also showcase the many artistic talents of Latinas in the U.S. EstrellaTV has been at the forefront of new artist development for more than a decade with ‘Tengo Talento, Mucho Talento,’ and we are proud to have offered a special platform for Latinas to showcase their diverse talents. Having two winners this season underscores our audience’s appetite for more women in the Regional Mexican genre,” said Ivan Stoilkovich, EVP, Television Content, Estrella Media.
Tengo Talento, Mucho Talento is the longest running talent competition in U.S. Spanish-language television and historically has held auditions for thousands of contestants across the country in search of America’s next big Latin music superstar. For this year’s special edition, auditions were conducted remotely via online video submissions. The show adhered to a strict socially distanced set design to comply with COVID-19 guidelines, which featured a closed set limited to production staff and essential personnel only, virtual screens for a remote audience, and strict safety protocols.
