TEWKSBURY, Mass. & BANGOR, Maine--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Covenant Health and Bangor Nursing & Rehabilitation Center are excited to announce that they have signed a definitive agreement to proceed with the acquisition of Bangor Nursing & Rehabilitation Center by Covenant Health. This announcement follows nearly 10 years of successful collaboration and partnership between the two not-for-profit healthcare organizations. Final approval of the agreement is pending review by the Department of Health and Human Services for the State of Maine.

Our long history of success working together was a major factor in our board’s decision to be formally acquired by Covenant Health.”

During this time, the facility has earned above-average ratings for quality and staffing from the Centers for Medicaid and Medicare Services (CMS). Covenant Health has earned a reputation for being an innovative, Catholic healthcare system with facilities from New England to Pennsylvania. St. Joseph Healthcare in Bangor is a member of Covenant Health.

Prior to this announcement, Bangor Nursing & Rehabilitation Center was the only independent not-for-profit nursing home in Penobscot County. Under the terms of the acquisition Bangor Nursing & Rehabilitation Center will become a sponsored member of Covenant Health and will continue to operate as a not-for-profit organization with guidance from its community-led board of directors.
